Horry County, SC – Officer Melton “Fox” Gore with the Horry County Police Department was killed in a crash on Tuesday afternoon.
The 57-year-old officer was removing debris from the roadway on Hwy 22 near the intersection of Hwy 31 around 4 pm. Police say he was hit by a 2007 Mazda SUV.
It wasn’t reported whether the driver of the SUV would be facing charges, but Horry County Police Chief Joseph Hill said, “I’m pretty sure that person did not start off the day thinking they were going to kill a police officer. Our thoughts and prayers go out to that driver.”

North Myrtle Beach, SC – North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Sergeant Gordon William Best was killed Thursday night in a vehicle collision, police say.
Reportedly, 30-year-old Sergeant Best was responding to a call of shots fired at the Barefoot Resort. While en route, the sergeant lost control of the vehicle due to the wet roads. The vehicle collided into a pole and Sergeant Best was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sergeant Best joined the department on October 21, 2013, and was promoted to Sergeant on February 17, 2019. He is the first officer to lose his life in the line of duty in the department’s history.

A Greenville County sheriff’s deputy with over 20 years on the job was killed late Tuesday afternoon and multiple others were hurt after a traffic stop that turned into an altercation along with several accidents that occurred on 1-85 Northbound near Whitehorse Road in Greenville.
The incident that began the chain of events was a traffic stop initiated by Sergeant Conley Jumper who was a road deputy with a long history working in narcotics and as a K-9 handler.
