UPDATE: Search Continues for Suspect Who Killed Houston Police Sergeant Sean Rios

Houston, TX – The Houston police officer who was shot and killed on Monday afternoon has been identified as Sgt. Sean Rios.


Sgt. Rios was responding to a call of shots fired shortly after 1:30 pm on Monday when he engaged the suspect. Gunfire was exchanged and Rios was shot.

Rios attempted to go to a nearby motel for help and succumbed to his injuries at the motel.

Sgt. Rios was a 25 year veteran with the force and leaves behind four children.

Just Hours After Sergeants Murder, it is revealed that DA’s office released suspect day before, returned gun

As the City of Houston and its Police family mourn the loss of 41 year veteran Sergeant Harold Preston after his murder this morning at the hands of a convicted felon, it has emerged through several sources that the Harris County District Attorney’s Office released the suspect Elmer Manzano had been released from custody just yesterday when the DA’s office declined to file charges stemming from another domestic call on Monday, October 19th, 2020 where it is alleged that Manzano was waving a firearm and threatening his former partner and their children.

OFFICER DOWN: Sergeant Murdered, Officer and Son of Suspect also shot after domestic call

A Houston Police Sergeant is dead, in addition to another officer and the son of the suspect having sustained gunshot wounds in a shootout in south Houston this morning after attending a domestic disturbance call.

Officers received a call for a domestic disturbance at 8:15 am Houston time, arriving on scene to meet with the estranged partner of the suspect in the shooting. The female stating she wanted to remove items from the apartment. Chief Art Acevedo stated in a press conference that this was the third such call to the same residence over the weekend for HPD.

UPDATE: Two Houston Officers Shot, Sergeant Murdered in Shooting

Early reports have stated that two officers have been shot on the southwest side of Houston in the 2600 block of Holly Hall. Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo announced the incident on his Twitter feed, asking all to pray for the officer’s safety. In a tweet sent out shortly before 1 pm by national FOP President Joe Gamaldi, Gamaldi stated that Sergeant Harold Preston, a 41 year veteran of the Houston Police Department who was weeks away from retirement was killed in the incident. Few details are currently available as to the nature of the call or what transpired in the ensuing shooting.
