UPDATE: Search Continues for Suspect Who Killed Houston Police Sergeant Sean Rios

Houston, TX – The Houston police officer who was shot and killed on Monday afternoon has been identified as Sgt. Sean Rios.


Sgt. Rios was responding to a call of shots fired shortly after 1:30 pm on Monday when he engaged the suspect. Gunfire was exchanged and Rios was shot.

Rios attempted to go to a nearby motel for help and succumbed to his injuries at the motel.

Sgt. Rios was a 25 year veteran with the force and leaves behind four children.

Houston Police Sergeant Shot And Killed

Houston, TX – A Houston Police Sergeant was shot and killed in North Houston today per department authorities.

The shooting occurred at about 1:30 PM in the area of the  Taj Inn & Suites Motel in the 7700 block of the North Freeway.

A witness at the scene who heard the gunshots told ABC13 he saw the officer running toward the motel after shots were fired.

Details are extremely limited and the officer has not been identified.  It is unknown if a suspect has been identified or detained.

This is the second Houston Police Officer shot and killed in three weeks.
