Eureka, California Police Officer Airlifted After Chase, Crash

A police officer with the Eureka, California Police Department was seriously injured yesterday after a chase on U.S. Highway 101 after police responded to a report of a man assaulting a woman in the 800 block of West Wabash Avenue in Eureka.

The initial call at a hotel turned into a pursuit as the man fled the police down Broadway just before 10 a.m. The pursuit resulted in the crash of the suspect’s vehicle and the patrol unit of officer Cameron Hooks that left Hooks with injuries serious enough to require being airlifted to a level 1 trauma center in the area after the crash for further medical treatment.
