Suspect Dead, Officer Wounded After Robbery in Alexandria, VA
A police officer was wounded in the lower body early this morning after a robbery was reported with shots fired at a Holiday Inn in Alexandria.
As police began to search the area of North Old Town, a suspect was located a short distance away from the robbery location. Officers began a foot pursuit when one of the officers was hit in the leg at the intersection of Royal and Second Streets in Alexandria by the suspect who fired on police. The officer will survive his injuries and is in fair condition stated Alexandria Police PIO Courtney Ballantine.
K-9 units were brought in to track the suspect when a second gunfight between officers and the subject began. Several parts of North Old Town were ordered to seek shelter, however, the ban was lifted a short time later as the suspect was located deceased.
later located the suspect on North Fairfax Street. A second gunfight ensued, and the suspect was found dead, police said.
