OFFICER SHOT: Delaware Officer Shot During Confrontation With Attempted Murder Suspect
Rehoboth Beach, DE – An officer is in critical condition after being shot at an Econo Lodge Inn and Suites Resort motel located at 19540 Coastal Highway Thursday evening. Fellow officers rushed a 38-year-old Milford police officer assigned to the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force to the Beebe Healthcare after he was shot multiple times by a 37-year-old suspect wanted for attempted murder in Pennsylvania.
The officer, reportedly a 13-year veteran of the department, was then flown to Christiana Hospital to undergo surgery. He’s currently said to be in critical but stable condition.
Details on the incident remain scarce a day later, but reportedly, the fugitive unit had tracked the shooting suspect, who is said to be from Reading, PA, to the inn. The Delaware Online reported that a witness said police pulled up behind a truck parked in the motel lot. A man, the witness said, jumped out of his truck and started shooting at police.

A Delaware State Trooper reportedly shot back, hitting the suspect and killing him. Neither the trooper nor the suspect’s identification have been released. A firearm believed to be the suspect’s weapon was recovered at the scene.
In the last two days in Delaware, 10 people have been shot, three of which were fatal incidents, including this officer and deceased suspect.
On Friday, Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings said, “My thoughts — and those of every person in this department — are with (the) Milford police officer. The attempt on this officer and his fellow officers’ lives has only been public for a short time, but I know that his entire community is hurt, angry and rooting hard for a swift recovery.”
So far it’s reported that three officers from MPD as well as Delaware State Police and Probation and Parole were all on scene during the incident.
