Man Shot By Anaheim Police During Human Trafficking Investigation
Anaheim, CA – A man was shot and wounded by Anaheim Police on Monday morning as officers were conducting a ransom and human trafficking investigation.
Police initially responded to the location at about 11:30 PM on Sunday after a family member called police and told them their relative was a victim of human trafficking. The family member alleged the suspects smuggled undocumented immigrants into the United States and then held them for ransom inside an apartment near Syracuse Street and Lincoln Avenue in Anaheim.
Anaheim Police Sgt. Shane Carringer stated units arrived and placed the location under surveillance. At around 6:00 AM a man approached officers and confrontation occurred, which resulted in an officer involved shooting.
The suspect fled and was taken into custody a short distance away. He is being treated at an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, per authorities.
No officers were injured.
Police have not released info on what led up to the shooting, or if the suspect was involved in the human trafficking investigation.
After the shooting police arrived at the target apartment and located 10 people inside, including the subject of the initial call to police. Several suspects have been taken into custody regarding the trafficking investigation. Further details were not provided by authorities.
