D.C. Police Release Bodycam Footage of Fatal Incident that Sparked Riots, Looting
Washington D.C Police released body worn camera footage of the incident that resulted in the death of 20-year-old Karon Hylton who ran from officers after being spotted riding a moped on a sidewalk.
In the released footage, officers can be seen giving chase to Hylton who is riding a moped down a Washington D.C. sidewalk. Hylton, refuses to stop and is pursued for a short time through several streets and down an alley.
Hylton then appears to turn left out of an alley, directly into the oncoming path of a silver vehicle that strikes him, dragging him along the roadway and out of sight of the body-worn camera of the officer in the initial vehicle in pursuit.
The death of Hylton on October 23rd, sparked protests that devolved into rioting and looting in the Brightwood Park neighborhood and surrounding areas.
Clashes with police ranging from small numbers of vocal protestors to large numbers intent on injuring officers and looting were posted to twitter in the days following the incident.
