Chicago Police Officer Stabbed After Mental Health Call
A Chicago Police officer was transported to the hospital and will survive his injuries after he was stabbed in the abdomen after responding to a mental health crisis call on the city’s south side last night.
It is believed that both responding officers used a taser to subdue the as-yet-unnamed suspect as they attempted to take the male into custody. Officers were called to an apartment in the 9000 block of South Burley Avenue on the south side of Chicago at approximately 11:15 p.m Thursday night. As officers arrived, a 26-year-old man began throwing objects at the police and damaging the apartment that he shares with family members before coming outside the residence and running at officers with a knife in each hand.
Although it is unclear if the suspect was fully disarmed by officers, the suspect was able to regain control of one weapon, stabbing one of the officers in the abdomen.
