The remarkable aspect of today’s discussions and rantings about police brutality is the lack of facts driving the debate. The reality of police encounters with the public, including the criminal element, is that only a fraction of those encounters results in injury or death.

Arkansas Officer Murdered Is Identified, Two In Custody

Helena-West Helena, Ark. –  A Helena-West Helena Police officer was fatally shot on Thursday night while attempting to take a suspect into custody for a prior shooting charge at the Delta Inn Motel in West Helena, Ark.

The officer has been identified as 41-year-old Travis Wallace, who had been on the Department for 5 years. Wallace is survived by a 10-year-old son.

Police say that Officer Wallace had stopped an SUV and the suspect exited the vehicle firing a weapon. Wallace was able to return fire, but was fatally shot.

Police identified the suspect as 29-year-old Latarius Howard, who fled the scene initially. Howard was arrested several hours later.  An [...]

57 Philadelphia Police Officers Injured, 212 arrested in Riots & Looting

Philadelphia police announced that they have made over 200 arrests in the days since the shooting death of Walter Wallace Jr. who was approaching police refusing to put down a knife this week.

In contrast, 57 officers have also been injured during the unrest, including a female sergeant who was hit by a speeding pickup truck who suffered a broken leg in the first night of unrest.
