Portland, OR – LENN’s Voice of American Law Enforcement, Randy Sutton, spoke to a group of Portland Police officers who have been on the front lines of the rioting for the majority of the last eight months. Sutton called his seminar Pride in Policing and used his time to remind officers that most of the people across our nation support law enforcement, as well as to address the rising issue of Post Traumatic Stress Injury/Disorder in policing.

Silverton, OR – Driving in a small town south of Portland this weekend, I saw a lovely sight: Along someone’s private fence were several thin blue line flags, lawn signs reading “Dear Officer: #WeNeedYou,” and a large handwritten sign that read “Tell my family I love them.”
The significance of that sign, as many know, is that it’s the last radio transmission of Toledo, Ohio Police Officer Anthony Dia before he was shot and killed on Independence Day last year.
The transmission was chilling and hit the hearts of people everywhere. Officer Dia was 26 years old and left behind a wife and two sons, ages eight and six.

I never thought I would have to write this article, but the last week has shown me that we are in dire times. Our politicians love pitting the police against the public and our officers will be put in awkward positions. This article is not for non Law Enforcement Officers (LEO’s). If you are a citizen reading this, our officers need your support. Read away. But the best thing you can do is show support for them so that they can keep their job while maintaining the constitution. For our active cops, this is for you.

For months, the country has been rocked by constant rioting and people screaming for “racial justice” and police reform. If there has been any good from all this anti-police, anti-American rhetoric, it’s the fact that so many have stood up to show support for our nation’s constitution as well as our peace officers to attempt to drown out all the contempt against them.
I fear that a large amount of that support for the police is slipping away.
