California Officer Shot at, Suspect Steals His Unmarked Police Car
Corona, CA – An officer driving an unmarked SUV appeared to have been targeted by a shooting suspect on a California Highway Saturday.
The officer, who hasn’t been identified, was driving a black Ford Explorer patrol vehicle on I-91 when he was hit from behind. The impact caused the officer to spin out of control.
The officer pulled over to the side of the road once he stopped spinning, at which point the driver of the other vehicle ran towards the officer with a gun drawn. The officer reportedly started shooting at the driver from the side of the SUV while the driver is behind it, but it’s said that the civilian wasn’t hit.
The driver gets into the driver’s seat of the police SUV and the officer goes to the back end of the vehicle. Another civilian vehicle pulls up to the police car, which has lights activated, briefly and then drives away.
An uninvolved person caught part of the incident on video, where you can see the officer backing away from his car with his gun drawn.
Soon after the incident, the police SUV was found near La Sierra and Minnier Avenues in Riverside. The suspect was located in an apartment in that area and was taken into custody. His name was not released.
The officer was no hurt during the incident.
